Sasol Calls For IPP Bids To Supply 600 MW Of Renewable Energy To South African Operations

The JSE-listed company, whose Secunda facility, in Mpumalanga, is considered to be one of the largest single-site carbon emitters globally, said the purpose of the RFI process was to identify independent power producer (IPP) partners able to deploy renewables projects that could supply electricity to its South African operations under power purchase agreements (PPAs). The projects must show a generation capacity of at least 20 MW to be implemented either as wheeled options from suitable locations across South Africa, or as embedded options close to Sasol’s facilities in Secunda or Sasolburg, in the Free State.

Zimbabwe Tenders For 500 MW Solar Power Plants In Renewable Energy Drive

Taiwan’s Renewable Market Revolution Taking Shape

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), Foxlink Group, E Ink Holdings, and TCI Co. are among the buyers, Vena Energy Taiwan Solar Energy, Ye Heng Power Co., and Foxwell Energy Corp. are among the producers and Southern Electricity Corp., Mr. Watt and Foxwell Power represent a completely new class of electricity sellers. The projects’ five solar power installations will have a combined installed capacity of nearly 90.4 MW (megawatts) and generate more than 110 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity.

Renew Power Wins 400 MW Tender For 24/7 Renewables Supply In India

Indian renewable power producer ReNew Power Ltd has won a tender for 400 MW of renewables capacity in India that will be the first to deliver “round-the-clock” electricity. The tender was held by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) on behalf of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Information on the Ministry’s website shows that ReNew Power has secured the right to install the capacity with a tariff of INR 2.90 (USD 0.038/EUR 0.035) per kWh.

BP Looks To Add 1.5 GW Wind And Solar For Huge Renewable Hydrogen Project In W.A.

Oil and gas giant BP is looking to  build 1.5 gigawatts of new wind and solar capacity in Western Australia if it goes ahead with a full commercial project to build a renewable hydrogen production facility in that state, with an eye to the export market. BP is turning to its 50-50 joint venture Lightsource BP to canvass the large scale wind and solar options in the area around Geraldton, north of Perth, which would represent something like a three fold increase in the amount of renewable energy capacity already in the state.

SWSL Is Awarded $338M EPC Contract In Australia

Valued at A$525m ($338m), the contract is the largest order for the company in Australia. Additionally, the company has been awarded an A$85m operation and maintenance (O&M) contract for a maximum period of 20 years. Sterling and Wilson renewable energy director and global CEO Bikesh Ogra said: “This is our largest order in Australia and is a culmination of efforts to break new ground in countries like Australia, the US and South America, where SWSL has invested in a strong team that is completely aligned with the local requirements.

Tasmania Releases 200% Renewable Energy Action Plan

Tasmania is on track to be self-sufficient in renewables by 2022, making it the first state in Australia with 100% renewable power generation. But the island state knows it is well placed to pursue a much more ambitious goal, which would see it double its renewable production by 2040 and help mainland Australia reduce its emissions.

CPP Investments Commits €200 Million To Renewable Energy Projects In France

The partnership is developing three offshore wind farms in France . CPP Investments will pay approximately €80 million for its stake, with an additional €120 million committed to follow-on investment as the first project progresses through construction. CPP Investments could make additional investments of more than €150 million in the two additional offshore wind farms.

EBRD Funds Back Polish Wind And Solar

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing five loans totalling €63m to support French renewable energy developer Qair’s portfolio of almost 200MW of projects in Poland. BNP Paribas is also providing project finance lending to the portfolio on a parallel basis.

Mirova Acquires RES Swedish Wind Farm

RES, an independent renewable energy company, has announced the sale of Rödene Wind Farm to Mirova, an asset management company dedicated to sustainable investing and an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers. The transaction includes an agreement to build the wind farm with an engineer, procure, construct (EPC) contract.

Hawaii’s Renewable Tender To Deliver Major Solar And Storage Push

Mexico’s Renewable Clampdown Puts Neoen’s Ultra-competitive PV Plant In Limbo

Operators are starting to feel the impacts of Mexico’s recent decision to block renewable project connections, with a major solar project paralysed weeks after coming online. EgyptERA Approves Solaris Request To Supply Solar Energy To Arabian Cement

The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) has approved Solaris Renewable Energy’s request to supply solar energy to the Arabian Cement Company. The renewable energy, which will be supplied for a period of 25 years, will be produced at a 7.2 MW solar power plant project that includes a self-consumption system.

U.S. Approves Plan To Build the Nation’s Largest Solar Project In The Desert By 2022

The US government has just approved the construction of what will be the largest solar project in the nation and the 8th largest in the world. This week, the Department of the Interior (DOI) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced the approval of a proposal to construct and operate a 690-MW photovoltaic solar electric generating facility in Nevada about 30 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
