AfDB Approves $20M For Nigeria

The board of directors of the African Development Bank has approved a $20 million investment in the Metier Sustainable Capital International Fund II. The fund channels resources to renewable energy and resource-efficient infrastructure projects in Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African countries. The bank said its funding would contribute to production of an additional 178.5 megawatts of renewable power for commercial and residential use.

AfDB Sponsored Off-Grid Energy Access Fund Reaches Final Equity Close With Partner Contributions

The Facility for Energy Inclusion’s Off-Grid Energy Access Fund (FEI OGEF) has reached a final equity close with $59 million in committed equity capital and $36 million debt facilities, to support innovative, off-grid energy access companies. The final close, reached on 18 November 2019, was made possible through a $15 million equity contribution from the European Union (EU), and a further $17 million from KfW, acting on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Australia Rooftop Solar Installs Total 2.13GW In 2019 After Huge December Rush

Installations of small-scale rooftop solar panels reached 2.13GW in calendar 2019 – a jump of 35 per cent over the previous year – after a record surge in the month of December.  According to industry statistician Sunwiz, 220MW of small scale rooftop solar was installed in December – nearly 10 per cent above the previous record levels in October and November, and despite the usual slowdown around Christmas.

Austria’s New Government’s 1 Million Photovoltaic Roofing Program

Austria’s new government has promised a 1 million photovoltaic roofing program as part of its plan to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. The country pledged to source all its electricity supply from renewable sources by 2030. The new Austrian federal government, formed by the conservative Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) in coalition with the ecologist Green Party and led by ÖVP’s Sebastian Kurz, has appointed a new ‘super ministry’ for climate and environmental protection as well as energy and infrastructure.

Giant 64 Hectare Solar Farm Proposed For Land Near Barnstaple

Proposals for a giant solar farm near Barnstaple that could power almost 11,000 homes are set to be revealed at a public exhibition. The 64 hectare – 160 acre – scheme is being proposed for land to the south west of the town at Litchardon Cross near Newton Tracey. The company intends to submit a planning application for the ground-based solar array, which it says would potentially generate approximately 49,000 megawatts of electricity every year.

AB InBev Signs Deal For 130MW Of Solar Power In Europe

AB InBev signed a 10-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Munich-based global renewable energy developer BayWa for more than 130 megawatts from two solar farms. The renewable energy will go toward powering AB InBev’s European brewing operations.

Denham Capital Invests $250 Million In Power Company Ceiba Energy

Private equity firm Denham Capital has agreed to invest $250 million in Ceiba Energy, an owner and developer of power generation assets in Latin America, the two companies said on Monday. The investment is aimed at allowing Ceiba to expand its portfolio of power projects in the region, where it currently controls over 50 installations including renewable and gas-fired power plants, the companies said in a statement.

Brazil Set To Prohibit Taxation On Solar Energy

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro said on Monday that he would move to bar taxation on solar energy in Brazil, as the Latin America country continues to grow the share of renewables in its already substantial share of non-fossil fuels in the electricity production mix.

The United Arab Emirates grew its renewable energy portfolio by more than 400% in the last 10 years, and is on track to double that again in the coming decade, Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. [ADNOC.UL] chief executive Sultan al-Jaber said on Monday. “We (ADNOC) will increase our carbon capture utilization and storage program by 500% … to capture the same amount of C02 as 5 million acres of forest,” Jaber also told a sustainable energy event in the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi.
