An Oxfam survey reports that energy poverty presents a serious challenge in sub-Saharan Africa, despite longstanding efforts to address it. That that in 2014, 633 million people lacked access to electricity and 792 million people relied on traditional biomass as their primary energy source for cooking. This results to drudgery, poisoning, fires, burns, limited economic opportunity, and premature death due to respiratory diseases.

Kwara Partners Energy Company To Generate 5,000MW And 10,000 Jobs

Kwara State government has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a renewable energy company, Libra Capital Limited, to create 10,000 jobs and generate 5,000 megawatts power through renewable power plants and operations of standard agro-industrial parks in the state.

One Of Malawi’s First Solar Energy Project Reaches Financial Close

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is planning to roll out nearly $1 billion of energy investments across the region during the 2019-2021 period. As the energy demand in the Asia and Pacific region grows, ADB is trying to improve the regional energy systems in the Pacific. The bank is seeking to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy; maximize access to energy for all, and promote energy sector reform, capacity building, and effective governance.

GE Toasts 1.2GW Turbine Joy In China

GE Renewable Energy has secured 1,215MW in turbine orders or commitments in the onshore wind sector in China for 2019. The company said the deals include an order for 33 2.7-132 turbines for HECIC’s 100MW Balagedai 2 project in Inner Mongolia, scheduled for completion in 2020.

Herbert Smith Freehills advised AC Energy on its joint venture with UPC Asia Pacific for the development, construction and operations of solar projects in the Asia-Pacific region. Iberdrola’s head of renewables, Xabier Viteri, said that in the new year the company would also probably increase its target for renewable energy from the “ambitious” target of 10GW by 2022.
