Egypt On Track To Finalise 200MW Solar Plant In Kom Ombo

Egypt is completing a solar power plant in Kom Ombo, Aswan governorate with a capacity of 26 MW, a senior official told Egypt Today on Monday. A 200 MW solar plant will be also installed in the same area in Kom Ombo city, Head of the New and Renewable Energy Authority Mohammad al-Khayyat added.

A Mitsubishi Corporation-led partnership has struck a deal to buy Netherlands utility Eneco, strengthening the Japanese giant’s position in European renewables and fighting off competition from oil giant Shell. Mitsubishi will buy Eneco in an 80/20 consortium with fellow Japanese group Chubu in a deal that values the utility at €4.1bn ($4.5bn).

Solar Farm Helps Balance UK Grid At Night

The BP-backed renewable energy developer behind a 200MW solar farm planned for inland New South Wales has used one of its UK grid-connected PV projects to help balance Britain’s electricity network – at night. Lightsource BP said on Monday that a November 4 trial using one of its solar plants in East Sussex had successfully provided night-time reactive power voltage support services to the electricity network – a first for a solar asset in the UK.
